Faculté Libre de Théologie Evangélique in Vaux-sur-Seine (FR) Cooperates with the ETF Leuven Doctoral Program
The Evangelische Theologische Faculteit (ETF) in Leuven and the Faculté Libre de Théologie Evangélique (FLTE) in Vaux-sur-Seine, France, have signed a cooperation agreement for cooperative promotions.
Cooperative doctoral programs give higher educational institutions without a (recognized) doctoral degree, such as FLTE, the opportunity to participate in a doctoral program of a recognized institution such as ETF. PhD students will be supervised by two promoters, one attached to ETF Leuven and one to FLTE. Upon successful completion of the PhD project, the doctoral degree will be awarded by ETF Leuven.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Beck, Dean of ETF Leuven: “FLTE has been offering studies at the doctoral level for several decades, but does not enjoy official government recognition. This is the situation in France at all theological faculties, except those at the University of Strasbourg. We look forward to this collaboration, which will allow promising researchers from the French-speaking evangelical movement to obtain a recognized doctorate.”
Christophe Paya, dean of the FLTE Vaux-sur-Seine, confirms: “FLTE and ETF Leuven agree on numerous matters. Our common intention is to make a significant contribution to theological research, especially from an evangelical perspective. This cooperation agreement will enable our two institutions to expand their international network, and will enable FLTE to offer a path enabling qualified doctoral students to obtain a recognized degree.”
ETF Leuven has maintained contact with FLTE, founded in 1965, from the very beginning. In addition to mutual student exchange, professors from both faculties have participated on the promotion committees for some doctoral dissertations in the past. The agreement for cooperative PhDs represents a strong intensification of this cooperation. A similar agreement was signed in 2019 by ETF Leuven and Giessen School of Theology (FTH) (Germany).
