Bachelors Program
kapel_2.jpgETF offers a three-year academic bachelors program primarily in Dutch. Students from the Netherlands who have obtained a VWO or propedeuse HBO, and those from Flanders with ASO/TSO can be admitted to it. Students from Flanders with ASO/TSO, and those from the Netherlands who have obtained a VWO or propedeuse HBO can be admitted to study.
In addition to your chosen area of specialization, everyone will take courses in the following disciplines: Old Testament, New Testament, History of Christianity, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, and Religious Studies. Though Dutch is the main language of instruction, ETF assumes a basic knowledge of English. There are three specializations to this program:
Bible & Theology
This option allows for solid study of classical theological disciplines. Great importance is placed on biblical research and on the biblical languages of Greek and Hebrew. Upon successful completion of this three-year program, you should be academically capable to give biblical instruction at the local church level and follow current academic discussions in the field of theology. More than the other specializations, this major serves as a preparation for the masters program.
Church & Pastoral Ministries
The emphasis of this specialization is placed on pastoral ministries, church development and preaching. The number of required credits of Greek and Hebrew studies is limited (but you have the opportunity to take more of these courses). Following this three year program, should you desire to enter directly into ministry, then your academic credentials should be sufficient for leadership as an assistant pastor, teaching elder, or co-worker on a pastoral team, evangelist or missionary.
Religion & Education
This track studies various social conceptions of religion and faith from a Christian perspective and how to apply these in education. In the application of these principles to the study of different religions, you also learn to work in and with other cultures. The number of required hours of Greek and Hebrew studies is limited. Following this three year program one may choose to directly enter service in religious education or missionary service.

After three years of successful study and successful completion of each specialization, you would receive the diploma “bachelor in de godgeleerdheid en de godsdienstwetenschappen” (Bachelor of Theology and Religious Studies).
The program may also be followed part-time.
